Bringing Mental Health into the High School Curriculum
Limited Capacity filling up

Evidence based mental health literacy is the foundation to improving outcomes for youth. Our team has spent the last 11 years developing, researching and adapting resources for use in schools to increase the mental health literacy of students and staff. In particular our Mental Health and High School Curriculum and Go-To Educator training. Participants will be introduced to these resources that have been adapted and evaluated in different countries. They will learn how they can apply these resources in their school settings.

Mallory Comeau is a Communications Coordinator with the Sun Life Financial Chair in Adolescent Mental Health team. She utilizes her journalism background to enhance the knowledge dissemination of TeenMentalHealth.org through social media and community engagement. Mallory has worked with schools across Nova Scotia to deliver sessions to students on mental health literacy and using the right words to talk smart about mental health and illness. Mallory will also be joined by colleague Kate Elliot.

Know Before You Go
Limited Capacity seats available

Know Before You Go is a resource created for grade 12 students, and the educators who support them, as they begin the transition out of high school and into post-secondary studies and/or employment. It is a life skills resource which focuses on assisting readers with anticipating, identifying, and navigating situations they may encounter as they gain more independence. It covers information on basic life skills such as paying bills, making medical appointments, developing study skills, as well as provides opportunity to reflect upon one’s identity and develop skills to support healthy relationships with others. The focus of the text is to develop and support these life skills, so that when you encounter hardship, you are better prepared to support yourself and others. In the summer of 2017, a small group of B.Ed. students was funded to take the text and turn it into a board game. Our work with the board game has continued in the time since, and we have created a solid mental health literacy resource with easy classroom application. We invite you to come explore mental health literacy, all through the magic of a board game.
