In this session, we will explore some of the cutting edge research on cannabis use among youth. Together we will discuss some of the following questions: Why do youth use? Should we be concerned about cannabis use? What do we need to know to help youth use more safely? How does my role as an educator fit into the prevention framework? I will also introduce you to some evidence-based substance use prevention programs.
 
Dr. Kara Thompson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at StFX. Trained in Lifespan Development Psychology, her research focuses on understanding the factors that contribute to problematic substance use among youth and young adults in an effort to inform the development of evidence-based prevention programs and policies.
